Who Says Black Is Not For Families?

.

Most folks’ perception of black is that it’s only suitable for swinging singles but that is proven so so wrong with my clients. A family of 4 inclusive of a newborn and a toddler, this young family was unfazed when the world frowned upon such a dark and sombre setting. But like we always advocate, black is the choice of the Bold, not for the narrow-minded. As the family grows into this dark and chic home, we hope that their kids embrace this same courage and philosophy in life to take on the world.

My House Is A Fun House

.

When our clients first briefed us, “Scandi” was the keyword given. Wolf Woof does not believe in delivering typical cookie-cutter Scandi so upon knowing our clients better, we knew they were gung ho enough to embrace unconventional ideas. So unconventional we went. The result: An adorable space that oozes cuteness from every corner and jam packed with fun highlights. Yes, including a black bird perched atop the roof. And a TV console custom-designed to simulate a famous designer sound system. Your wish is always our command. And usually you’ll end up with more than you’ve bargained for.

Clients’ Testimonial:

Our affinity with Wolf Woof started with us surfing through social media sites to source for ideas for our new home. We chanced upon some unconformist designs and they immediately captivated our hearts! That’s our first acquaintance with Wolf Woof.

Back then, we didn’t know who Carmen was. We contacted her through her website form and next came a long email from her, explaining her mode of operation (which is really very different from the IDs out there), how she charged for her services and payment terms etc. She was transparent with her process, no gimmicks, no hidden costs. What captured our attention in her email was Carmen’s personal statement on reno. She wrote, “Reno is a happy occasion so I usually prefer to keep it light and fun... something that both homeowners and I can enjoy together and produce something good.” We couldn’t agree more to this principle of hers!

After a meeting to understand our needs, our preferences, next came her design proposal and first visuals that swept us off our feet, that made hearts went pikpok x 2, hers and ours!

From conceptualisation to renovation, to purchasing styling items, Carmen oversaw all of them. Work-in-progress pictures were sent, keeping us updated, seeking our views when tweaks needed to be made, communicating clearly to ensure the craftsmen got it right, sometimes into the later hours. That saved us a lot hassle!

Carmen is selective with whom she partners. The contractor’s team of workers had good workmanship, the curtain and lighting suppliers were prompt in their services. Most importantly, they were all reasonably priced! That gave us the assurance that everything would turn out nicely like her visuals.

We have moved into our new home for 3 months, and there isn’t a moment we don’t love the space that Carmen has created for us!

Our reno journey with Wolf Woof was indeed fun and memorable. There’s a Chinese saying 疑人不用,用人不疑. If you decide to go with Wolf Woof, you can safely entrust your home with Carmen. Of cos, be sure to tell her your likes and dislikes upfront, and thereafter, give her the free hand to design and propose what she thinks will be the best for your space, one that caters to you and your family’s needs and preferences.

Mediterranean Minus The Mediterranean-ism

Smacked in the heart of Singapore, this compact 2 bedroom condo was crying out for some character when our clients took over the unit. The brief was pretty open – to craft a home that is both unique and cosy. And because clients’ preferred colour scheme was blue and yellow, we proposed the theme of ‘Modern Mediterranean’ minus the typical design approach. The result: Prettiness, cosiness and tranquility all rolled into one. The space may be small but dynamites come in small packages.

{ Because of constraints, we can only share shots of the living, kitchen and dining areas }

Clients’ Testimonial:
It’s liberating to have an ID whose creativity knows no boundaries. Carmen has given us a home that is not only reflective of our personalities, but an abode that is unique and cosy. She’s definitely a perfectionist and has no qualms about showing contractors the way things should be done to achieve the desired look and feel. We are also really grateful to her for helping us to resolve several issues with the vendors, which saved us a lot of frustration and time.

Seamless Chic

When we first visited the site, we knew it had potential to shine. The high ceiling meant we could milk the height to create a loft. And the purpose of the loft? Both functional and aesthetic – while our clients need plenty of storage for their bags, shoes and everything in between, they also crave for that clean, seamless and minimalist look that is signature of Japanese as well as Scandinavian interiors. The compactness of this space with the punctuating black lines (from the ladder leading up, to the simple railing that runs the length of the loft) coupled with bold accent furniture pieces result in a space that now oozes character and spunk. Cleverly disguised is the TV console designed to look like a planter box for that added quirkiness. Peppered with a dash of yellow (clients’ choice of accent colour), the finished space is a perfect picture of calmness with a hint of playfulness.

Black Is The New Black

Inspired by the vibes of Regent Singapore's Manhattan bar, our client wanted to create a personal gentleman’s club-style loft bar in his new home. While most shun away from a predominantly black interior home, our client embraced it with open arms. And armed with that assurance, Wolf Woof went all out to craft that perfect dark, masculine yet debonaire loft bar home for him

Client’s Testimonial:

I may seem easy going but I am a perfectionist. Only TOP and good designer can work well with me. Carmen fits this bill perfectly, She knows what I want (maybe more than what I want) and is able to deliver and offer more than what I have expected. She is even more perfectionist than me, down to the nitty gritty stuff. I take my hat off her and think it’s money well spent to engage her. This is especially so after my bad experience with some ID. Carmen is worth every cent I paid. She can up her fee and I (and many others) will still engage her. 😜

I trusted her a lot and because after a few conversations with her, I know she is dead serious about her work. She is no nonsense and not afraid to tell me what work and what not. It’s not because I am the one paying she will kow tow to u. I respect her professionalism. Trusting her to run this project is one of the best decision I have made. 😊

We spent so much money to get the perfect unit for our home the last thing we want is to get some lousy ID to “destroy” our dream home.

No Style Is A Style

Located in the East, this HDB apartment is a classic example of how no (specific) style is actually a style. The brief given was more to address the lifestyle needs of the 3-generation family staying under one roof than it was an look-based one. The end result is a seamless fusion of the occupants’ different personalities, styles and needs, with a touch of unexpected quirkiness and loads of character.

Clients’ Testimonial:
Engaging Carmen as my ID was definitely the best decision I have made in my entire reno journey. I ‘found’ Carmen while randomly searching for IDs on social media. Before that, we had met up with a few ID firms but just couldn’t settle our hearts on any of them! Besides being impressed by Carmen’s projects (I remember they made my eyes ‘popped’!), I was also equally drawn to her very real personality. We connected on email and that was the birth of our ID/client-turned-friends/drinking buddies relationship.

Our brief to Carmen wasn’t a theme/style-centric one. My priority was to design my house to cater to my multi-generation family with our varying personalities and preferences – from my 5-year-old granddaughter to my daughter + me and my husband! It was not a straightforward brief at all!

When Carmen first showed us her proposal, it truly made our hearts go “Pik Pok” “Pik Pok” “Pik Pok”. She totally nailed the brief in the very first proposal! Although we made some changes along the way, the final product is not too far from the original proposal. Well done, Carmen!

Through the reno journey, she was always there, whether it’s physically – the countless site visits, spending all day even on the weekend with us for tile selection/sanitary ware or door selection etc. and always available on Wharsapp/phone whenever I need her advice. The amount of time she spends on a project from pre-conceptualisation to project handover is insane! Her 钱很难赚!!

Engaging Carmen also saves me a lot of headache of having to source for all the furniture and home accessories on my own. I would have been so lost and honestly, I do not have the luxury of time to do the sourcing. With her excellent eye for aesthetics, she ensures that all of them match and tie in with the entire design of the house. The list of options that she provides is often so exhaustive that we sometimes have a hard time making our selections but that is definitely a good problem!

Honestly when I started on my reno journey, I didn’t know what to expect as my reno was very extensive but Carmen guided us through each phase seamlessly. So THANK YOU SO MUCH CARMEN! And thanks for being a friend to me, Andrew, Rachel and Raeanne (+Herni + Elfie)!

Elegantly Luxe

Modern luxe is really a style that opens up to different interpretation. For Wolf Woof, modern luxe is never GOLD-ALL-OVER. Neither does it need to be dark and sombre. It is understated luxury while exuding lushness. This home that is one classic example. Working with the clients’s input and preference, we created a unique air theatre. More importantly, we love that the clients have put so much trust in us in crafting their home.

Clients’ Testimonial:
”Having been through a few renovation projects ourselves in the past, the way you handled this renovation project has clearly stood out from the rest and we would like to give a BIG shout out to you and your extended team for your dedication and persistence on perfection. You have always given much time and attention to even the smallest details, and whenever we encounter any issues you will proactively work with the contractors to give us options and solutions, and to thoroughly discuss with us the pros and cons under each option, whilst striving to strike a balance of design and practicality.

We unreservedly recommend you to anyone who is in need of a good shepherd/designer to guide them through their renovation process which sometimes can be quite overwhelming, and your willingness to be involved in every step of the way to ensure all goes well is a testament to why you came so highly recommended to us in the first place.

Rock on, CARMEN you’re a true artist with the biggest heart!

Happy to be your future references when needed.”

Scandi Industrial Chic

This is a unique home designed for a unique family of 4, each with their own unique character and style. While we needed to celebrate their individuality, we also needed a binding factor to ‘tie’ everyone together and anchor the design. Hence the birth of a cafe-in-home concept – a concept that capitalises on the unit's long balcony and its great view. Instead of the typical layout, we reconfigured the space and created a dining area on raised platform that’s an interesting deviation from the norm. Because the family is not the typical family that will gather around for a meal, yet it is closely knitted, this area is designed for them to chill out as individuals and as a family unit since they all share the love for cafe-hopping.

Sleek Chic

There are so many ways to build a loft. Ultimately, function and style determine the type of loft you’ll end up with. The clients needed it to be a work space, for themselves and their daughter. There was also a dire need for additional storage as with most condo homes. Other than inserting a little study desk and chair, we also built storage cabinets that span the width of the loft space with little display niches for client’s accessories. Quirky ‘life rules’ were also incorporated into the otherwise serious home style to give it that added spunk and character. All these achieved with the modern minimalist theme in mind.

Clients’ Testimonial:
”One thing for sure, Carmen will meet your criteria if you don’t want to have yet another run-of-the-mill design for your new home. She is full of originality and creativity, yet respectful if you express certain design preferences.

We encountered numerous roadblocks at our new place, like limited space, fengshui considerations etc, resulting in her proposed designs being declined. Unfazed, Carmen would turn up again and amaze us with new ideas to push boundaries (in a good way of course). She is also brutally honest, especially when articulating her views about designs, which we totally appreciate. So be forewarned if you prefer a designer with sweet coated words, as she is not one to please you that way!

We wish her every success, as she continues to create unique home designs for others!!”

Scandi Fun

It was pretty much an open brief from the clients. They didn’t have a concrete idea of what they want for their new home. They only set some ground rules of what to avoid. But everything else was up to the designer to propose. Given that everyone else was creating a Scandinavian style home somewhere in Singapore, we were determined not to create another cookie-cutter Scandi home. DETERMINED.

Modern Chic

The brief: Modern minimalist. The client: A quintessential uptown girl. The plan: To marry subtle masculinity of a driven career woman with the soft femininity of the girl deep down. The how: Through the use of rose gold accents (carpentry) paired with hues of navy blue (accessories), complete with chic furniture choices.

Nordic Charm

The brief was to create a comfortable and cosy Scandinavian style home. No gimmicks. Nothing over-the-top. Just a simple home that the client can retreat into when the world gets a little too crazy. To make a visual statement, black lines and accents were employed to give the space style and character.

Client’s Testimonial:
”Carmen is a great designer who does not churn out run-of-the-mill design for her clients. She will conscientiously find out your preferred style and will work with you to create your dream home.

She sees through the whole process of design, managing of contractors and she will also painstakingly help you source for furniture and fixtures. She is very responsible and will even help resolve post renovation issues.

Thanks Carmen for designing such a cosy pad where my friends like to hang out.”

10 Unbelievable Home Makeovers in Singapore That You Have To See

Minimalist Chic In The City

It was clear right from the start that this stylish couple in their thirties was not for mediocre stuff/style. They wanted a chic loft. One that speaks of their style and lifestyle. Having lived in both England and Taiwan, they have grown to appreciate the intricacies of old monuments and the clean lines of modern architecture. And a minimalist chic loft was exactly what we created for them.

Carefully curated home decor accessories spice up an otherwise bare wall.

To give small homes their personality, it is crucial to carve out areas and create ‘zones’ in a home. Here, a bar table was added to layer up and define the space.

Restricted by the living room size, the choice of furniture pieces had to be strategic. Statement pieces such as the lounge chair, stool and pouf were picked to express more style and personality than the regular sized couch.

The result: A timeless, hassle-free, designer chic loft with style that’s made to last.

Luxury In A Nutshell

Luxe doesn’t always mean gaudy and over-the-top opulence. It can be understated while still oozing sophistication and charm. Even for a relatively small space. We undertook the challenge to transform a compact 3 bedder into a elegant loft featuring gold accents, glass and marble textures.

Clients’ Testimonial:
“Carmen has a gift for taking ideas and dreams and turning them into reality. From her visionary design sketches to her 3D illustrations, she was very professional in her services rendered and prompt on her promises. She also brought a creative flair and distinct style to her interior designs. We really love the home she created for us and the entire journey we had with her from idea conceptualisation to final renovations were very memorable and enjoyable.”

My House Is A Toy Boutique!

Our clients entrusted us with an open brief to feature their impressive collection of Bearbricks, Star Wars and Bathing Ape collectibles. Boy, did we have fun conceptualising and designing this place! From the uber cool Lego TV wall that transformed the TV into a game console. To the chic Bearbrick display wall. The rest like they say, is toy story!

It‘s Black. It’s White.

Making a bold statement without seeming too stark through a clever play of details and textures. Love how our well-travelled clients' bohemian attitude comes through via touches such as the artistic black and white movie lightboxes instead of regular wall lamps to illuminate the stairwell.

No Style IS A Style

When the entire Singapore was going after Scandinavian style interior, our clients gave us the best brief – NO BRIEF. Their only requirement was to have a unique space undefined by any style. We admire their vision because it takes so much to NOT follow general trends. For that, we designed a space that was truly unique. A cosy little space to call their own.
